The mixed martial arts Northampton cage fight event Shoot and Sprawl last Saturday was a big success for Blood Sweat and Tears with all eight fighters winning their bouts!
First up was Daniel McGowen aged 14, who was competing in his first fight for BST. It was an awesome fight with Daniel stopping his opponent with knees in round one.
Next was Raymond Paul, who after a brief exchange on foot took his opponent to ground and used his lethal ground skills to guillotine choke his opponent out cold – after a brief spell of unconsciousness he did recover but may consider a tapout next time!
Jodan Cotman was facing an opponent with an equal record so it was an even fight on paper, however Jodan totally outclassed his opponent, showing excellent skills to win.
Nick Christie had a tough fight which turned into a three round war. His opponent was strong, but Nick’s superior ground skills were evident, winning him the judge’s decision.
Nathan Anderson had one of the most memorable fights, his opponent stepped in at short notice but was definitely there to win and put up a good fight with great wrestling, stand up and striking skills from both fighters. Nathan came out on top though, winning by judge’s decision.
Dean Williams was facing an opponent from a kickboxing background, however Dean knew exactly how to handle him and didn’t let his opponent’s strength show, submitting him with an armbar in the first minute of the first round. His opponent tapped out and the fight was won!
Kieran Rolfe had a tough day before the fight, spending five hours in the sauna to make his weight! It didn’t affect his game though as he showed a lot of heart as well as excellent striking and wrestling skills, turning up the heat in the second round to ground and pound his opponent until the ref stopped the fight.
Marlon Moreas proved himself to be a muay thai wrecking machine, opening with a devastating flurry of punches and kicks to the head to down his opponent, a French fighter who tried to submit Marlon and take him out of his comfort zone. However Marlon is a well rounded fighter and escaped, ending the fight with a rear naked choke after just 3.30 mins.
The success of BST Northampton on the night is a testament to the coaches we have here, particularly BJJ and No-Gi Jiu Jitsu coach Alexandre Izidro who trained most of the fighters and also to the hard work of the BST fighting team, most of who have been MMA training for under a year so well done BSTMMA!
